May 2002 IBEW Journal Retired Freddie J. StanleyFreddie Jack Stanley, director of the IBEW Broadcasting and Recording Department, concludes a distinguished 39-year career of IBEW service with his retirement May 1, 2002. As director of the Broadcasting and Recording Department since 1995, he served as chief negotiator for the IBEW at the CBS and FOX Pro Sports national negotiations. Brother Stanley was initiated into IBEW Local 1200, Washington, D.C., on May 1, 1963. He served as Local 1200 business manager from 1979-1986 and as president from 1977-1978. Additionally, he served on the locals CBS and RCA Negotiating Committees. He was appointed an International Representative on February 1, 1986, and assigned to the Broadcasting and Recording Department in the International Office. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 and is a member of the American Legion. Brother Stanley and his wife, Ellen, plan to relocate to the Pocono Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania to be closer to their first grandson, Shane ODonnell. The International Officers, staff and members of the IBEW congratulate Brother Stanley and wish him and Ellen a long and happy retirement with their family. Appointment IBEW International President Edwin D. Hill has appointed Michael J. Pendergast, former business manager of Local 4 in St. Louis, Missouri, as director of the Broadcasting and Recording Department at the International Office. Brother Pendergast was named an International Representative March 1 and assumed his new duties May 1, 2002. He succeeds Freddie Stanley, who retired on May 1, 2002. A native of St. Louis, Brother Pendergast, 51, has been a member of IBEW since 1984 and was a staff engineer for station KSDK-TV in St. Louis in 1990 when he was elected business manager of Local 4. A 1973 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, he also worked in TV production for National Mobile Television and on productions from the municipal opera and Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. During his time at Local 4, Brother Pendergast was active in the Missouri State Electrical Conference and both the county and state AFL-CIOs. He was appointed by then-President J.J. Barry in 2000 to assist in IBEWs national negotiations with Fox Pro Sports and also serves IBEW on the Advisory Panel on Broadcasting. Brother Pendergast was a member of the Law Committee at the 36th International Convention and is a member of the governing board of his local chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is married to Patricia Laughlin, public school teacher and member of Local 420 of the American Federation of Teachers. |
