May 2002 IBEW Journal Retirement James E. Brock, Jr.IBEW Computer Services Department Director James Edward Brock, Jr. announced his retirement effective May 1, 2002. Department director since July 1994, Brother Brock has played a role in all phases of the evolution of the Computer Services Department at the International Office. He was the first programmer on the IBEWs first computer, a Univac 1004. In 1963 he programmed the IBEWs first membership, pension and mailing programs. Brother Brock was appointed as an International Representative in charge of the Computer Services Department in July 1993. A member of IBEW Local 1200, Washington, D.C., since 1993, Brother Brock began his career at the International Office in 1960 and worked in the Research Department. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland in 1982 with a bachelor of science degree in computer science and business management/information systems management. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1967. Brother Brock looks forward to retirement and enjoying his hobbies, weight lifting, photography, bike riding and computers. The IBEW congratulates Brother Brock on his distinguished career of service. Officers, staff and members wish him and his wife, Susan, many happy years of retirement. Richard Shepler will head the Computer Services Department on an interim basis. Retirement Danny D. MellowayDanny D. Melloway retired May 1, 2002, concluding a 44-year IBEW career of service. Brother Melloway served the Brotherhood as an Eleventh District International Representative for 17 years. He was appointed to that post in May 1985. A Missouri native, Brother Melloway was initiated into the IBEW as a member of Local 257, Jefferson City, Missouri, in May 1958. He began his career as a journeyman inside wireman and served the Brotherhood with loyalty and dedication throughout his career. Brother Melloway was Local 257s business manager-financial secretary for 15 years. He was local union president for two years and served on numerous Local 257 committees, including the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Health and Welfare, and Labor Management committees. A member of the Masons and a Shriner, he looks forward to retirement and plans to enjoy hunting and fishing. The IBEW congratulates Brother Melloway on his many years of dedicated service. Officers, staff and members wish him and his wife, Delores, a long and healthy retirement. |
