November 2002 IBEW Journal

Make A Difference
L.U. 349 (em,i,mps, rtb, spa&u), MIAMI, FLThe first anniversary of September 11 has past, a time no one now living will ever forget.

We hope everyone got out and voted for friends of labor. Thanks to all who helped during this important election.

When you get your IBEW Journal, I hope you read it to find out what is happening in the local unions and the I.O.

When is South Florida NECA going to organize NECAinstead of making the union man work like the nonunion man.

Remember as you go through life, if you dont paddle your own canoe, you dont move. Help support your local union by organizing and attending union meetings. We all need to be active participants to help our local grow. Attend your union meetings and learn first hand, not the opinion of someone else.

New Officers
L.U. 405 (em,i,rtb&spa), CEDAR RAPIDS, IAInterest in our local was at a new high during our nominations and elections for leadership. We had a run-off election for the office of president and business manager. Effective July 16, our local swore in new officers Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Joseph Luense, Pres. Greg Grant, Vice Pres. Steve Kluesner, Treas. Don Michael and Rec. Sec. Jeb Novak. The Executive Board members are Charles Barta, Bob Clark, Robert Dix, Scott Ferguson, Bill McDermott and Justin Miller.

A special thanks to our past officers, as no one knows the time and effort that goes into serving as they do. The rewards are few and appreciation is almost non-existent, as only those who have served know. If everyone could serve as an officer, the entire local would have more respect for each other.

Congratulations to the new officers. We as a local need to get behind our new officers and help them any way we can. Its in our own best interest for them to be successful.

Brotherhood and solidarity forever.

Gary Butz, P.S.

He is a strong advocate of organized labor, and his election will give him a platform to espouse the ideals integral to organized labor. David led the voting among eight candidates attempting to fill two slots in his district. In the same election, his wife, Dreama McCool Davidson, was elected to the Cheatham County Board of Education.

The Davidsons were sworn in at the Cheatham County Courthouse along with others elected to public office. Family, friends and well-wishers were among the 200 in attendance at the ceremony and reception that followed. Bro. Davidson hopes to set an example for other qualified brothers and sisters who consider participating in the political process.

Commissioner Davidson will serve on the committees on Capital Improvements, Education, Nursing Home, Animal Control and Rules during his four-year term in office.
